IndiGo To Add 10 New Destinations, Expanding Its Global Footprint

India’s largest airline is set to introduce ten new destinations in FY25, reflecting its commitment to expanding its international reach. This includes both domestic and international routes. “We will be flying to Mauritius and adding another destination in Thailand,” said CEO Pieter Elbers at the Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Dubai.

The airline currently serves 122 destinations, with 88 domestic and 33 international routes. This expansion follows a record profit in FY24. Despite grounding over 70 planes due to Pratt & Whitney engine issues, the airline has maintained its capacity guidance.

International Expansion

IndiGo's strategy mirrors its domestic approach, focusing on rapid international growth. The airline recently announced a shift to enter the long-haul market and introduce business class. “We have a generation that has never flown business class. Years ago, many in India had never taken a plane, who then became our first-time fliers,” Elbers noted.

Elbers highlights a significant opportunity in international travel from India. “The share of Indian carriers is notably lower than that of foreign carriers. Given that the market is in India, that’s a bit odd. We are starting to build our share in those markets, and recent initiatives are aiding in this effort,” he said.
