IndiGo Flight Crisis Day 6: Over 220 Flights Cancelled at Delhi & Mumbai; Check Flights Running Status Today

IndiGo, India's largest budget carrier, continued to face an operational crisis on Sunday, with large-scale flight cancellations entering the sixth consecutive day. InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) reported over 220 flight cancellations at Delhi and Mumbai airports alone on 7 December, causing major disruption for travellers across the country.

At Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, a total of 112 flights, including departures and arrivals, were cancelled, as per a PTI report at 12:05 PM.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport witnessed nearly 112 flight cancellations on the same day.

Details of flight cancellations from other major airports, including Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, have not yet been fully disclosed.

This marks a slight improvement from Friday's massive disruption, when around 1,600 of IndiGo's 2,300 daily flights were grounded. On Saturday, approximately 800 flights faced cancellations as the airline attempted to stabilise operations.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru reported 124 cancellations, comprising 63 departures and 61 arrivals, while Hyderabad saw 66 flights cancelled.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken note of the crisis, issuing a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and COO and Accountable Manager Porqueras on Saturday. The regulator sought a response within 24 hours, requiring the airline to explain the massive disruptions, along with alleged lapses in planning, oversight, and resource management.

In a statement, IndiGo said the decision to operate only 700 flights on Friday was part of an effort "to reboot the network, systems, and rosters so that we could start afresh today (Saturday) with higher number of flights, improved stability, and there are some early signs of improvement."

The DGCA identified the primary cause of the disruptions as inadequate arrangements to meet revised requirements for the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) scheme, which regulates pilots' maximum operating hours.

The ongoing flight disruptions have also triggered a sharp rise in airfares, prompting authorities to intervene. The DGCA has mandated full ticket refunds for cancelled or delayed flights and directed airlines to cap ticket prices for affected passengers by 8 PM on Sunday.
