The aircraft was operating as IndiGo flight 6E-723 and was due to reach Chennai at around 11.30 pm. According to airport officials, the pilot informed air traffic control about the left-engine problem as the aircraft approached Chennai. The airport subsequently activated its full emergency protocol, placing firefighting, rescue and other emergency teams on standby.

The aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at 11.37 pm, around eight minutes after the emergency was declared. Chennai airport officials said the full emergency was withdrawn at 11.47 pm, about 10 minutes after the aircraft touched down.

There were no reports of injuries among the 224 people on board, including passengers and crew. Airport operations also continued normally after the emergency was called off, indicating that the incident did not result in a prolonged disruption to other scheduled flights.

The incident occurred during the final stage of the Kolkata-Chennai journey, when the aircraft was already approaching its destination. Once the pilot reported the engine issue, airport authorities prepared emergency response teams to ensure that assistance would be immediately available if the landing became more complicated.

Chennai Airport Declared Full Emergency
