IndiGo, an Indian airline, has expanded its international reach by launching flights from Mumbai to Amsterdam. This marks the airline's second long-haul service in two days. IndiGo, based in Gurugram, operates over 400 aircraft and announced plans in May to introduce direct flights to London, Athens, and eight other international cities within the current financial year.

Expanding International Network
Currently, IndiGo serves more than 40 international destinations. The new Mumbai-Amsterdam route will operate three times a week using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is a major European hub and one of the busiest airports globally. On Wednesday, IndiGo also launched its first flight from Mumbai to Manchester, marking a significant step towards becoming a global airline.
The airline's CEO, Pieter Elbers, expressed excitement about the new route. "Spreading our wings further in Europe, we are delighted to launch our Mumbai-Amsterdam flights, connecting India to the world. This route will not only enhance connectivity for leisure, business, and student travellers but also deepen the thriving partnership between India and the Netherlands, culturally, economically, and diplomatically," he said.
Strategic Partnerships and Fleet Expansion
IndiGo has partnered with Norse Atlantic Airways for damp leasing six wide-body B 787-9 aircraft for its international operations. These planes will primarily serve routes to the UK and Europe. The first of these leased aircraft joined IndiGo's fleet in March this year, with all deliveries expected by 2026.
The Mumbai-Amsterdam service strengthens IndiGo's rapidly expanding international network. It highlights the airline's commitment to making long-haul travel more accessible and affordable for Indian travellers. The new route enhances connectivity for passengers travelling between India and key global markets.
Enhanced Connectivity for Travellers
With this new service, passengers flying to and from Amsterdam can easily connect to destinations across Europe, North America, and Canada. Additionally, they can access IndiGo's domestic network of over 90 destinations within India. The aircraft used on this route features a two-class cabin configuration with 56 IndiGoStretch business class seats and 282 economy seats.
IndiGo's strategic expansion into Europe aims to offer enhanced connectivity while fostering cultural and economic ties between India and other countries. By increasing its international presence, IndiGo continues to solidify its position as a leading player in the global aviation market.
