IndiGo is evaluating options to appeal a Rs 1.2 crore penalty imposed by BCAS for violations related to an incident at the Mumbai airport, where passengers exited a diverted flight and sat on the tarmac.
IndiGo is contemplating filing an appeal against the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security's (BCAS) imposition of a Rs 1.20 crore penalty for certain violations related to an incident at the Mumbai airport. The incident involved passengers rushing out of an IndiGo aircraft, sitting on the tarmac, and some even having food there after their diverted Goa-Delhi flight landed after a significant delay on January 14. The diversion was necessitated by fog-related issues at the Delhi airport.

Investigation and Evaluation of Appeal Options
In response to the BCAS penalty, IndiGo's parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, announced on Thursday that the airline is conducting an investigation into the matter and will assess its options for filing an appeal. The alleged violations cited by BCAS include the airline's failure to report the incident to the regulator, as well as its failure to ensure proper security screening of passengers and their cabin baggage before boarding.
Additional Alleged Violations
Other alleged violations include the airline's failure to maintain accurate details in the Aircraft Record Card (ARC), inadequate deployment of security personnel as per required standards, and an insufficient response to the emergency situation in a responsible and efficient manner.
IndiGo's evaluation of its appeal options underscores the airline's commitment to addressing regulatory concerns and ensuring compliance with aviation safety standards. The outcome of the appeal process will determine whether the airline will be required to pay the imposed penalty or if the decision will be overturned.
