IndiGo Share Price: Aviation Stock Hits 52-Week High Ahead Of Ayodhya Ram Mandir Ceremony

A passenger on an IndiGo flight to Goa assaulted the first officer during a delay announcement, sending shockwaves through the aviation industry. The incident, which occurred on January 14, has raised concerns about passenger behaviour and safety in the skies.

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., the parent company of IndiGo, witnessed a 1.36% rise in its shares at the close after Monday's trading session. The stock's performance reflects investor confidence despite the shocking incident that unfolded on one of its flights. The stock, which opened at Rs 3073.0, quoted a 52-week high of Rs 3113.0 and a 52-week low of 1810.45. Approximately 2,826 shares changed hands during the session, indicating active trading.

The incident involved a passenger assaulting the first officer of flight 6E2175 during a delay announcement at the Delhi airport. IndiGo swiftly responded, declaring the passengers unruly and handing them over to local law enforcement. In an official statement, the airline mentioned that an internal committee has been formed to address the matter, and the inclusion of the passenger in the 'no-fly list' is under consideration.

"The safety and security of our passengers and crew are of paramount importance, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any such unacceptable behaviour," stated IndiGo's press release.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia condemned the assault, emphasizing that unruly behaviour is unacceptable. In a post on social media, Scindia assured that all stakeholders are working tirelessly to minimize the impact of fog-related disruptions, which often contribute to flight delays.

"Incidences of unruly behaviour amidst this are unacceptable, and will be dealt with strongly in line with the existing legal provisions," he stated, highlighting the government's commitment to passenger safety.

The unruly passenger, identified as Katariya, faced legal consequences for assaulting the co-pilot and creating a nuisance on the flight. The flight, scheduled from Delhi to Goa, experienced a delay of more than 10 hours, contributing to the passenger's agitation. Katariya was arrested after being taken off the aircraft by security personnel.

The Delhi police registered a case against the passenger under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Aircraft Rules, initiating a thorough investigation into the incident.

Delays in flights, especially during foggy weather, have become a significant challenge for airlines and passengers alike. Over 50 domestic flights from Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport were delayed on a Sunday due to adverse weather conditions across the country. IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India were among the affected carriers, leading to chaotic scenes at the airport.

On a lighter note, IndiGo brought a touch of festivity to its flights connecting Ayodhya. The airline's staff dressed as Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman to flag off the inaugural flight between Ahmedabad and Ayodhya. The gesture aimed to celebrate the upcoming consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

IndiGo, which commenced services between Ayodhya and Delhi from January 11, plans to operate flights between Ayodhya and Ahmedabad thrice a week. The expansion of Ayodhya airport and an extended runway are on the horizon, allowing for bigger aircraft and international operations, as highlighted by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath anticipates around 100 chartered flights at the Ayodhya airport for the historic consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple on January 22. Dignitaries, politicians, business leaders, and celebrities are expected to attend, making it a momentous occasion in India's cultural and religious landscape.
