Industries Must Embrace Reuse and Recycling to Address Water Security Challenges, Says Minister Shekhawat

On Monday, discussions took place among policymakers, industry leaders, and water resource experts about water security challenges and innovative solutions. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasised the importance of industries adopting reuse and recycling strategies. He noted that water demands will continue to rise, urging a commitment to sustainable practices for future generations.

Minister Shekhawat Advocates for Water Recycling

During the Rising Rajasthan Summit's session on Regional Water Security: Technology and Governance, Shekhawat highlighted Israel's efficient water management techniques. He suggested adopting methods like drip irrigation to reduce irrigation water needs. "We must look to Israel's efficient water management practices, like drip irrigation, and focus on reducing water requirements for irrigation," he stated.

International Cooperation in Water Management

A joint declaration was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel and Rajasthan's Water Resources Department. This agreement aims to boost international cooperation in managing water resources. Additionally, a Letter of Intent was signed with Denmark's Embassy to work on rejuvenating the Saraswati Paleochannel, remnants of the Saraswati river.

Rajasthan's Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat expressed the state government's commitment to preserving surface water. He stressed revitalising groundwater to meet future demands. Abhay Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources in Rajasthan, described the state as water-stressed and advocated for sustainable management of every drop.

Kumar emphasised the need to increase dam capacity and address groundwater issues through efficient planning. "We must enhance dam capacity, address groundwater issues, and focus on efficient planning," he remarked. These measures are crucial for ensuring long-term water availability in Rajasthan.

The discussions underscored the necessity for collaborative efforts among policymakers, industrialists, and agricultural communities. By adopting sustainable solutions and learning from global best practices, they aim to secure water resources for future generations.
