International Air Travel Once Situation Normalizes: Civil Aviation Minister

Even as the sky has been opened up for domestic flights, the resumption of international flights might take place when situation normalizes, said Hardeep Singh Puri, Civil Aviation Minister.

And for it preparedness of both international nations as well as restrictions being lifted out in some of the Indian cities is being looked at. This is more to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection and safeguard the country's citizens.

Further in its tweet, the minister has affirmed those NRIs who are stuck in the country that they will be able to fly as part of the third phase of Vande Bharat Mission that shall operate between 9 June to 30 June. "We are continuously monitoring the situation and will consider restarting international flights as soon as situation normalises a bit and poses no danger to our citizens. We will also have to consider that countries where we intend to fly are open to incoming foreign citizens," the minister said in the tweet.

And for the same the bookings by Air India shall open on June 5 and the countries as part of the mission will be the US and Canada. "These flights will also carry outbound passengers to countries which have no restrictions on taking them in. So people can also avail these flights to return to the countries they wish to go," Puri said.

"Normal International civil aviation operations will only start when they can. Right now, most of our metro cities are under some form of restrictions due to which people from other cities cannot travel to catch flights and we also have requirement for mandatory quarantine on arrival," Puri said.

So, overall the decision on international travel shall be based on the virus behavior and its spread.
