IPL 2025 Suspended Indefinitely Amid India-Pakistan Military Escalation: Confirms BCCI Official

IPL 2025 Suspended Amid India-Pakistan Tension: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 indefinitely due to the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. A senior BCCI official confirmed the decision on Friday, citing growing security concerns after cross-border strikes and air raid alerts near several match venues. The suspension follows the abrupt cancellation of a match in Dharamshala and mounting pressure to ensure player safety.

Tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours escalated on Wednesday after India carried out strikes on what it claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan, in retaliation for a deadly attack in Pahalgam last month. New Delhi has named two Pakistani nationals as suspects and accused Islamabad of being directly involved-an allegation Pakistan has denied, calling instead for an independent investigation.

On Thursday night and early Friday, the Indian Army reported that Pakistan's armed forces launched "multiple attacks" using drones and other weapons across the western border. Pakistan, however, denied the claim.

Dharamshala IPL Match PBKS VS DC Called Off

Thursday's IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off midway after the fighting began in India's border regions. The BCCI attributed the disruption to a power failure at the stadium in the hill city of Dharamsala. However, the timing of the match's cancellation coincided with the onset of hostilities, raising questions about the true cause.

Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh is located less than 100 kilometres from Pathankot, where air raid sirens were recently activated on Thursday. The proximity to the conflict zone has turned the cricket venue into a hotspot amid rising tensions. This situation has prompted the BCCI to urgently deliberate on the future of the IPL.

IPL 2025 Update

The IPL, the world's richest cricket tournament, began its current season on March 22 and is scheduled to conclude on May 25, with matches held at 13 venues across India. The BCCI's decision on whether to continue the league will depend on evolving security conditions and government directives.
