US-Iran peace deal discussed as President Pezeshkian meets Pakistan’s civilian and military leaders
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held meetings in Pakistan with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir, focusing on regional developments and peace initiatives involving the US. Talks followed Switzerland discussions where the US and Iran agreed a 60-day roadmap under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Pakistan’s top civilian and military leaders on Tuesday. Talks covered regional developments and peace moves involving the US. Pezeshkian, on a day-long visit, held separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Prime Minister Sharif said a US-Iran peace deal would shift the region’s outlook. Sharif spoke at a joint press conference with Pezeshkian after delegation-level talks. The visit followed US-Iran discussions in Switzerland, where both sides agreed on a roadmap. The plan aimed to reach a final deal within 60 days.
US-Iran peace process and Islamabad MoU
The talks in Switzerland took place at the Lake Lucerne Summit on Sunday and Monday. They were held under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding MoU framework. The US and Iran signed the Islamabad MoU on Thursday. The agreement aimed to restore peace in West Asia. It also covered regional security and other disputed issues.
Sharif said the end of the war brought relief across the region. Sharif said the conflict could have spread wider. Sharif praised the Iranian public for unity and dignity during the crisis. Sharif credited Pezeshkian and colleagues for careful leadership. Sharif also described Pakistan as an honest mediator in the US-Iran peace process.
Referring to the technical talks in Switzerland, Sharif said, "God-willing, this arrangement will usher in a new era of peace, stability and prosperity for this entire region.\" Sharif also thanked Iran for trusting Pakistan. Sharif said, \"We have done it with full honesty of purpose and sincerity,\" while describing Pakistan’s role.
On questions about Iran’s nuclear and missile technology, Sharif addressed the missile issue. Sharif said Iran’s ballistic missile programme was not discussed by the US and Iran. Sharif added, \"It is not possible that others have missiles and Iran does not have them,\" during the exchange with reporters.
Pakistan-Iran relations and meetings in Islamabad
Pezeshkian said Pakistan-Iran ties rested on trust and mutual respect. Pezeshkian said recent events gave these relations a new direction. Pezeshkian said peace was possible through dialogue and mutual respect. Pezeshkian also sought new regional security arrangements for lasting peace.
Pezeshkian said, \"We are here to appreciate the role of Pakistan and the support of the people of Pakistan since the start of the war,\" while addressing the situation. Pezeshkian added, \"If it were not the effort of Pakistan, we would not be here.\" Sharif asked Pezeshkian to convey warm regards to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, several officials attended the delegation meeting. Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir was present. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also attended. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was among the Iranian participants.
During the meeting with Zardari, Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s role in Iran-US dialogue. Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran’s intent to strengthen bilateral ties and regional peace. Zardari welcomed Pezeshkian on the first state visit after the recent conflict with the US. Zardari said the visit reflected longstanding brotherly relations.
A statement from the President’s Office listed topics discussed by both leaders. The agenda included regional peace and security, connectivity, and economic cooperation. Other matters of mutual interest were also discussed. Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s peace and stability. Zardari also backed Iran’s national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Pezeshkian said Iran valued relations with Pakistan and sought wider cooperation. Pezeshkian said Iran wanted more work in political, economic, security, and regional areas. In a separate meeting, Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s role in dialogue and de-escalation, the army said. Pezeshkian also noted Pakistan’s efforts amid geopolitical challenges.
Field Marshal Munir reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability, the army said. Both sides agreed to maintain close consultations on shared interests. The army statement said both countries aimed to advance peace, prosperity, and stability across the region. The talks also focused on strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations further.
Masoud Pezeshkian visit security and travel details
Earlier, Pezeshkian landed at Nur Khan airbase and received an official welcome. President Zardari, PM Sharif, and other senior officials received Pezeshkian. Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder jets escorted the aircraft after it entered Pakistan’s airspace. Security remained high in Islamabad during the visit.
Ahead of leaving Tehran, Pezeshkian said the trip aimed at full implementation of the memorandum. Pezeshkian said implementation should follow international law, Press TV reported. Pezeshkian said the agreement could strengthen stability and security in West Asia. Authorities also closed bus terminals in the capital to limit movement into the city.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian warned against drifting from agreed commitments. The post said outcomes depended on full commitment and precise implementation. Pezeshkian wrote, \"Progress on this path will be measured by practical adherence to accepted responsibilities.\" Pezeshkian added, \"Statements outside the agreed text do not help advance the negotiations.\"
Sharif also announced plans linked to Iran’s leadership change. Sharif said Sharif would visit Iran next month. Sharif said the purpose was to attend the funeral of assassinated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The planned trip was mentioned alongside the ongoing diplomatic contacts linked to the Islamabad MoU.
The visit brought together Pakistan’s political and military leadership and Iran’s delegation. Discussions covered the Islamabad MoU, Switzerland talks, and regional security concerns. Both sides highlighted dialogue and close coordination as key tools. Pakistan also maintained heightened security measures in Islamabad while hosting the Iranian president.
