How Do Stocks Qualify for Maharatna and Navratna Status?

The Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) in India are divided into three categories, which include Miniratna, Navratna, and Maharatna. Currently, there are 14 Maharatna CPSEs, which are publicly listed companies with an average annual turnover exceeding Rs. 25,000 crore over the past three years. To qualify for Maharatna status, a company must already hold Navratna status, be listed on Indian stock exchanges, and meet shareholding norms. Additionally, it must have an average annual net worth of over ₹15,000 crore and a net profit exceeding ₹5,000 crore in the past three years, along with significant global operations.

Companies scoring 60 or more across these criteria are eligible for Navratna recognition as per CNBC. The Navaratna companies operate in major sectors in India, like defense, aerospace, steel, mining, and infrastructure, playing a very important role in India's economic growth.
