The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has joined forces with the popular online food delivery platform, Swiggy to enhance the travel experience for train passengers. This partnership aims to bring a delectable array of pre-ordered meals right to the passengers' seats during their train journey.
Announced on Thursday, the collaboration allows train passengers to access the official e-catering portal of IRCTC to order meals from a diverse range of restaurants. With over 2,000 restaurants available on the IRCTC eCatering platform, passengers are in for a treat with a plethora of culinary choices.

IRCTC's e-Catering took to X to share the exciting news, providing details on how passengers can order through the website, app, or even via WhatsApp. The post read, "Ensure a delicious journey for yourself with over 2,000 restaurants available on IRCTC eCatering."
The first phase of this partnership will witness Swiggy offering its food delivery services at four prominent railway stations - Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. In a stock exchange filing, IRCTC disclosed, "The IRCTC has tied up with Bundl Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (Swiggy Foods) for supply and delivery of pre-ordered meals through IRCTC e-catering portal as a PoC (proof of concept) in the first phase."
Furthermore, IRCTC hinted that the eCatering service through Swiggy Foods might soon be expanded to additional railway stations, broadening the reach of culinary delights for train travellers.
This isn't the first time IRCTC has forged alliances with food delivery platforms. Last October, IRCTC announced a partnership with Zomato, another major player in the food delivery industry. The collaboration aimed to facilitate the ordering and delivery of food at various railway stations.
Post the October 2023 announcement, IRCTC specified that the services were already operational at key stations such as New Delhi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi. The recent collaboration with Swiggy is expected to further enrich the travel experience for passengers, offering them a wide array of dining options during their train journey.
The partnership with IRCTC is anticipated to be a game-changer for Swiggy, providing the food delivery platform access to a vast customer base. Given the extensive number of passengers who opt for train travel, Swiggy's reach is set to expand significantly.
According to the IRCTC eCatering portal, passengers can place their orders seamlessly in just three steps. By entering the PNR, passengers can select an outlet, choose their desired food items, and schedule the order by making an online payment or opting for Cash on Delivery.
The ordered food will then be promptly delivered to the passenger's seat at the designated station, ensuring a hassle-free and enjoyable dining experience on the go. Additionally, the platform allows group orders for 15 or more passengers, with the flexibility to set custom prices for bulk orders.
As IRCTC continues to explore partnerships with leading food delivery platforms, the aim is to revolutionize train travel by offering a seamless and delightful culinary experience to passengers. The collaboration with Swiggy marks a significant step forward in this direction, promising an exciting journey for the taste buds of those on board.
Passengers can now look forward to a diverse menu, curated from a multitude of restaurants, delivered right to their seats. With the convenience of online ordering and the reliability of Swiggy's delivery services, train travel is set to become not just a means of transportation but a culinary adventure on the rails.
