The southwest monsoon is showing little sign of easing, with several parts of India expected to receive intense rainfall on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rain at some locations across eastern, central, northeastern and Himalayan regions.

Since heavy rain is disrupting normal life in several areas, a school holiday can be expected on Monday, August 31 from state to state and, in some cases, from district to district. While there is no nationwide school closure announcement due to rain, local authorities may order schools to be shut if conditions become unsafe.

As per latest forecast, heavy rainfall is expected in states including Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, while parts of the Northeast are also likely to see intense showers. Here's what students and parents need to know about school closures across major regions.

School Holiday In Delhi-NCR, Gurugram & Haryana

Delhi and nearby areas such as Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram, Haryana have experienced waterlogging and traffic problems after recent rainfall. There is currently no such wide-scale school holiday for Delhi-NCR because of the weather.

Haryana is not among the states under the latest heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for August 31.

School Holiday In Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand

Odisha, Jharkhand & West Bengal are the states that could see some of the strongest rainfall activity on August 31. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations, besides the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning.

It is important to note that the extremely heavy rainfall warning applied to August 30, while the August 31 forecast calls for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

However, no major statewide school closure has been confirmed. District authorities could announce holidays in locations affected by flooding, waterlogging or unsafe travel conditions.

School Holiday Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh

Uttarakhand & Himachal is expected to be under a major rainfall alert since very heavy rainfall is possible at some places on August 31 and September 1. Because of heavy rain there is a possibility of landslides in hilly areas. It is advisable to stay vigilant and avoid the vulnerable areas
