As per the RBI holiday schedule, bank branches are expected to remain closed on June 26 across several major cities and states, including Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar and Vijayawada.

Customers planning branch visits for cash deposits, cheque clearances or other banking-related work may want to complete their transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience.

Three-Day Bank Holiday This Week Till June 28, 2026

The Muharram holiday could lead to a prolonged break in branch-based banking services for many customers.

June 26 (Friday) is expected to be a bank holiday for Muharram. This will be followed by the fourth Saturday holiday on June 27 and the regular Sunday holiday on June 28. As a result, several regions may witness a three-day stretch of bank closures.

While physical branches may remain shut, digital banking services such as UPI, internet banking, mobile banking and ATM services are expected to function normally throughout the holiday period.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the holiest months in Islam. The day of Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, holds special significance for Muslims around the world.

For Shia Muslims, the occasion commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, in the Battle of Karbala. The day is marked by prayers, processions and remembrance ceremonies. Many states in India observe a public holiday on the occasion, leading to the closure of banks, government offices and several institutions.
