Stock Market Holiday on Republic Day 2026: BSE, NSE Trading Holiday on Monday, 26 January 2026
Since Republic Day falls on a Monday in 2026, market participants will experience a long weekend, as trading will remain shut for three consecutive days. Investors and traders are advised to take note of the closure while planning their weekly strategies.

According to the official holiday calendar issued by the NSE and BSE, all trading segments will remain closed on January 26 without any exception. This includes the equity market, equity derivatives (F&O), currency derivatives, and commodity segments.
There will be no intraday, evening, or special trading sessions across exchanges. All market-related activities, including order placement and settlement processes, will remain suspended for the day.
MCX Holiday on Republic Day: Commodity and Currency Markets to Remain Closed on 26 January 2026
Along with equities, currency markets will also remain shut on Republic Day. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has confirmed that commodity derivatives trading will not be available during either the morning or evening sessions on January 26.
This full-day closure aligns with the standard practice followed by Indian exchanges during national holidays.
Why Stock Markets Observe a Holiday on Republic Day
Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26, marks the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950. It is one of the most important national holidays and is designated as a mandatory trading holiday by Indian stock exchanges every year.
As part of the holiday framework followed by the NSE, BSE and MCX, trading is completely halted across all segments to commemorate the occasion.
Stock Markets to Remain Open on Next Sunday For Budget Day on 1st February 2026
In a separate announcement, stock exchanges have clarified that trading will continue as usual on February 1, 2026, for the presentation of the Union Budget, despite the day falling on a Sunday.
The exchanges stated that trading on Budget Day will follow normal market timings, ensuring uninterrupted market participation during one of the most closely watched financial events of the year.
