Is Stock Market Holiday Today for Eid-Al-Adha? NSE, BSE, MCX Trading Status on May 27; When is Bakrid Holiday?
With Eid-Al-Adha or Bakrid being observed in several parts of India on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, many investors and traders are confused about whether Indian stock markets are operating today or if trading activity has been suspended for the festival.
Is Stock Market Holiday Today for Eid-Al-Adha?
The uncertainty around the exact Bakrid date this year, driven by moon sighting differences across regions, has also added to the confusion among market participants tracking the National Stock Exchange (NSE), BSE, MCX and commodity market schedules.

At the same time, investors are navigating a shortened trading week, prompting many to check whether equity, derivatives and commodity markets are open or closed during Eid-Al-Adha celebrations.
Is NSE and BSE Closed Today on May 27 for Bakrid?
According to the official holiday calendar issued by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, Indian stock markets will remain OPEN on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The official stock market holiday for Bakri Id has been scheduled on Thursday, May 28, 2026. As a result, Indian stock markets will continue to function normally on Wednesday, with regular trading activity taking place across all major segments.
Trading in equity markets, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB), and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) will remain active throughout the day as per standard market timings.
The confusion mainly stems from differing regional observances of Eid-Al-Adha in India and Gulf countries based on the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon.
NSE and BSE Holiday on May 28
Both NSE and BSE will remain closed throughout Thursday, May 28, 2026, in observance of Bakri Id.
This will mark the ninth stock market holiday of calendar year 2026.
For the year, Indian exchanges have announced a total of 16 trading holidays, out of which eight had already been observed earlier in the year before the Bakrid closure.

MCX and NCDEX Trading Schedule for Bakrid
Commodity exchanges will follow a slightly different schedule on May 28.
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session on Thursday but will reopen for the evening commodity trading session.
Meanwhile, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain fully closed for both morning and evening sessions on Bakri Id.
This means agricultural commodity contracts on NCDEX will not trade at all during the holiday.
