Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Sunday launched six passenger-focused measures at Jammu and Srinagar airports. The steps were aimed at improving ease of travel, access, and cost for flyers. An official said the package included Digi Yatra, Udan Yatri Cafe, Flybrary book sharing, AVSAR retail spaces, a kids play area, and free high-speed Wi-Fi.

The minister opened the new facilities through video conferencing, an official said. The rollout targeted common passenger issues, such as long queues and costly airport food. It also aimed to improve comfort inside terminals. The additions were presented as changes for smoother movement and better services for travellers using both airports.
Digi Yatra at Jammu and Srinagar airports
An official said Digi Yatra uses Facial Recognition Technology FRT for paperless and contactless processing. Under the system, a passenger’s face acts like a boarding pass. Flyers can pass through checkpoints using facial verification. These checkpoints include entry gates, security screening, and boarding points. The aim was to reduce document checks and speed up movement.
Srinagar airport described the DigiYatra launch as part of a broader set of upgrades. The airport also cited passenger comfort as a key focus. The overall plan included better waiting areas and digital services. The airport said these changes supported easier and more orderly travel for passengers moving through the terminal.
Udan Yatri Cafe at Jammu and Srinagar airports
The Udan Yatri Cafe was introduced as a low-cost food outlet, an official said. Water and tea were priced at Rs 10 each. Coffee, sweets and Samosas were listed at Rs 20 each. The outlet addressed a long-running concern about expensive food at airports. The official said affordability was a central aim of the cafe.

The airport said the steps added to a smoother travel experience. The airport also linked the upgrades to smarter and more comfortable movement for passengers inside the terminal.
Flybrary and AVSAR at Jammu and Srinagar airports
An official said Flybrary was built around community reading and exchange. The concept encouraged travellers to share books and ideas during journeys. The Flybrary at Jammu Airport was set up jointly by the Airports Authority of India and the Rotary Club Jammu Tawi. The official said it supported reading habits among airport users.
An official said AVSAR, or Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region, supported inclusive economic development. It offered retail space inside the airport to local artisans and Self-Help Groups SHGs. The plan included subsidised rent to boost participation. The platform also gave direct market access for regional handicrafts and indigenous products.
