Major cities affected include Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata and Shillong.

January 1  Thursday - New Year s Day

Customers are advised to plan ahead as branch-based services will be unavailable on this day.

January 2, Friday - New Year Celebration / Mannam Jayanthi

On January 2, banks in Kerala and Mizoram will remain closed. This holiday coincides with Mannam Jayanthi in Kerala and New Year celebrations in Mizoram. Branches in Aizawl, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram will not operate on this day.

January 3, Saturday - Birthday of Hazrat Ali

In Uttar Pradesh, banks will observe a holiday on January 3 to mark the Birthday of Hazrat Ali. Branches in Lucknow will remain closed, while digital banking services will continue to operate.

January 12, Monday - Swami Vivekananda Jayanti

Banks in West Bengal will remain closed on January 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. This includes branches in Kolkata.

January 14, Wednesday - Makar Sankranti / Magh Bihu

January 14 is a major holiday in Assam, Odisha, and Arunachal Pradesh for Magh Bihu and Makar Sankranti. Banks in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Itanagar will be closed on this day.

January 15, Thursday - Uttarayana Punyakala / Pongal / Makara Sankranti

Banks in southern states and other regions will remain closed on January 15 in celebration of Pongal, Makara Sankranti, and Uttarayana Punyakala. Branches in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and northeastern cities such as Gangtok will not operate. Major metro cities observing this holiday include Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada.

January 16, Friday - Thiruvalluvar Day

In Tamil Nadu, January 16 marks Thiruvalluvar Day. Banks in Chennai will remain closed in observance of this holiday.

January 17, Saturday - Uzhavar Thirunal

January 17 is observed as Uzhavar Thirunal in Tamil Nadu. Branches in Chennai will not operate on this day.

January 23, Friday - Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti / Saraswati Puja / Basanta Panchami

January 23 is an important holiday in West Bengal, Odisha, and Tripura, celebrating Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, Saraswati Puja, and Basanta Panchami. Banks in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, and Kolkata will be closed.

January 26, Monday - Republic Day

Republic Day on January 26 is a nationwide bank holiday, observed in all states and Union Territories. Major cities with closed branches include New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Vijayawada, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Agartala, Aizawl, Shillong, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, and Kohima. Customers should plan all branch-based banking accordingly, though digital banking services will continue as usual.

While digital banking services like UPI, internet banking, and mobile apps will continue to operate, branch-based services-including cash withdrawals, cheque clearances, and documentation-may face delays. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities in advance, especially in cities with multiple holidays in the month.
