January WPI Inflation Increases To 2.03 Percent
For the January month, WPI inflation increased to 2.03 percent in comparison to 1.22 percent in December 2020. This was primarily owing to increase in wholesale price of manufactured goods. The index for manufactured goods increased by 1.54% to 124.9 on a provisional basis in January, 2021.
For the different goods such as transport equipment, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers; machinery and equipment; electrical equipment; computer, electronic and optical products; fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment; basic metals; rubber and plastics products; pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products; chemicals and chemical products; paper and paper products; wood and of products of wood and cork; wearing apparel; textiles; tobacco products; beverages, wholesale prices have scaled higher in comparison to the previous month.

Nonetheless, four categories even saw a decline in prices such as non-metallic mineral products; printing and reproduction of recorded media; leather and related products
