Jindal Stainless and SBTi Collaborate to Achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050

In a significant move towards sustainability, Jindal Stainless announced its partnership with the global climate action body, Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), on Tuesday. This collaboration is set to pave the way for Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) to achieve its ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The company is committed to implementing various strategies to eliminate the carbon component in its emissions, marking a critical step in its journey towards environmental stewardship.

Jindals Net Zero Goal with SBTi

As part of its comprehensive strategy, JSL aims to produce over 1.9 billion units of clean electricity annually. This initiative is expected to result in a reduction of more than 13.52 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions each year by 2050. A thorough assessment of the company's Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory will be conducted as part of the partnership, covering operations and the entire value chain. This assessment is crucial for setting science-based targets, which are essential for meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, "The development marks the beginning of a rigorous process to develop ambitious, science-driven emissions reduction targets. By aligning with SBTi’s standards, we aim to significantly reduce our carbon footprint and inspire positive change within the industry." This statement underscores the company's commitment to not only advancing its sustainability goals but also setting a benchmark for others in the industry.

The UK-based SBTi represents a collaborative effort between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It offers standards, tools, and guidance to companies, providing them with a framework for setting ambitious emission reduction targets that are in line with climate science. Through this partnership, Jindal Stainless aligns itself with a global movement towards more sustainable industrial practices.

This initiative by Jindal Stainless and its collaboration with SBTi signals a significant shift in how companies are addressing climate change. By setting science-based targets and committing to net-zero emissions by 2050, Jindal Stainless is taking a leadership role in the industry's transition towards sustainability. This move not only benefits the environment but also sets an example for other corporations to follow suit in making science-driven decisions for a sustainable future.
