Swiggy's Instamart is expanding beyond groceries, medicines, and daily essentials by adding Reliance Jio mobile phones to its ultra-fast delivery lineup. On Tuesday, the company announced a partnership with Reliance Jio to deliver two Jio phone models - JioBharat V4 and JioPhone Prima 2 - in under 10 minutes.

Key Features of JioPhone Prima 2
The second phone by Reliance Jio are more advanced and includes internet browsing. The mobile comes at a price of Rs 2,799 and offers inbuilt applications like YouTube, Facebook, Google Voice Assistant, etc.
With a Snapdragon processor under the hood, it provides 512MB RAM and a robust 2000 mAh battery. Additionally, it supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and can operate in 23 Indian languages.
Launched in 2020, Instamart is Swiggy's entry into quick commerce delivery segment. The application delivers groceries and essentials swiftly within 10 minutes across over 125 cities. This service leverages Swiggy's extensive logistics network. The addition of Jio phones represents a strategic effort to extend quick commerce services beyond just essentials.
This partnership between Swiggy's Instamart and Reliance Jio signifies an innovative approach to enhance accessibility to mobile technology for consumers across India. By integrating these devices into their platform, Instamart aims to provide seamless access to affordable mobile solutions alongside everyday essentials.
The recent addition of fast delivery of Jio Phones is another attempt of Swiggy to stay relevant in the segment amid rising competition from market rivals like Zomato.
Quick commerce entities like Zepto, Blinkit, and Swiggy's Instamart began imposing additional charges on customer orders, reported Economic Times recently. These fees are in addition to existing platform and service charges. They include basket size levies, small-order fees, bulk order handling charges, and weather-related costs like rain fees. The aim is to enhance unit-level profitability, with these new charges already active on major apps.
Swiggy's Instamart has adjusted its minimum order value (MOV) to Rs 99. Blinkit imposes a "quick delivery" fee along with extra charges for bulk or discounted orders. These fees differ across cities and order types, generally ranging from Rs 6 to Rs 30 per order.
The quick commerce sector in India is largely dominated by selected players including Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto. These companies hold around 80-85% of the market share. This intense competition makes it challenging for companies to increase delivery fees since they are often subsidised.
These additional charges are a part of a wider strategy of these companies to adapt for better pricing tactics to bring back the profitability amid fierce competition and rising operational costs.
