What Indian Employees Value Most: Job Security, Positive Work Culture, and Feedback

Regular Feedback: A Key Aspect

One of the key highlights of the report is the emphasis on regular feedback as a priority for Indian workers. Compared to the global average of 42%, a higher percentage of Indian respondents (50%) indicated that they receive regular feedback on how their performance and skills impact their careers. This underscores the importance of effective communication and performance management practices in fostering a productive work environment.

Job Security and Positive Work Culture: Top Priorities

Job security and a positive work culture emerged as the top priorities for Indian employees when asked about their primary reasons for staying with their employers. A significant 37% of Indian respondents cited job security as a crucial factor, while 36% emphasized the importance of a positive work culture. These findings highlight the value placed on stability and a supportive work environment by Indian employees.

Well-being Offerings: A Growing Focus

The report also sheds light on the growing significance of well-being offerings for Indian employees. Nearly half (49%) of Indian respondents indicated that well-being offerings, such as work designed for employee well-being, are of utmost importance to them. This preference is higher than the global average of 43%, underscoring the increasing awareness and demand for work-life balance and overall well-being in the Indian workforce.

The Role of AI in Talent Development

Sukhmeet Singh, the Talent and Transformation Leader of Mercer India, emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing skilled talent development in India. Singh believes that AI can unlock the potential of human capital, empowering employees to acquire new skills, enhance their capabilities, and drive innovation. This perspective aligns with the evolving landscape of work and the need for continuous learning and skill enhancement in the digital age.

The Mercer 2024 Global Talent Trends report provides valuable insights into the priorities and preferences of employees in India. The emphasis on job security, a positive work culture, regular feedback, well-being offerings, and the transformative role of AI in talent development underscores the changing dynamics of the workforce and the need for organizations to adapt and respond to these evolving trends to attract and retain top talent.
