From next month i.e 1st July many important rule changes will take effect across India which will directly influence the way people spend and manage essentials. These changes range from the recently announced rail ticket price hikes to ATM withdrawal charges, etc. Let's have a look at what's changing and how it could affect your pocket.
1. Railway Ticket Prices to Go Up
Indian Railways recently announced that it will implement a fare increase across sleeper and AC classes from 1st July to cover operational costs. The hike, even though it seems little, will add up over long distances. Sleeper class fares will rise by Rs 0.01 per km, and AC class fares by Rs 0.02 per km. For example, travelling from Bangalore to Hyderabad, around 600 km, will cost Rs. 6 more in a sleeper and Rs. 12 more in AC.
2. Aadhaar Card Now Mandatory for PAN Application
From July 1st it will be mandatory to provide your Aadhaar card when applying for a new PAN card. Additionally, existing PAN holders must link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. The government is taking this step to eliminate duplicate or fraudulent PANs used for tax evasion. If your PAN is not yet linked, make sure to complete the process before the deadline to avoid issues with income tax filing.

3. LPG Cylinder Prices to Be Revised
Like every month, oil companies will update LPG cylinder prices on the 1st of July. Both domestic and commercial cylinders may or may not see new price tags. In the last three months, there was a reduction in LPG prices in the commercial segments where the prices went down by Rs. 24 in June, Rs. 17 in May, and Rs. 44 in April.
4. ATM Withdrawals from ICICI Bank to Get Costlier
ICICI Bank customers withdrawing cash beyond the free transaction limit will now face a charge of Rs. 23 per transaction starting July 1. The number of free withdrawals depends on location, as people in metro cities will get three free ATM transactions per month, while people in non-metro areas will receive five free transactions per month.
5. HDFC Credit Card Payment Through Apps Will Cost More
HDFC credit card users will face extra charges when paying their bills through third-party platforms like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, etc., from 1st July. A 1% fee will be applied to such payments. Additionally, extra charges may apply for utility bill payments made via credit card.
