Speculation intensified after Annamalai left for Delhi on Monday. According to various reports, he is expected to meet BJP national general secretary Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to formally communicate his decision. Before departing for the national capital, Annamalai further fueled the buzz by telling reporters, "Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days," PTI reported.

One of the BJP's most prominent faces in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai has largely stayed away from the spotlight since being replaced by Nainar Nagendran as the party's state president last year. Senior BJP leaders familiar with the developments told The Indian Express that Annamalai has already made up his mind. According to them, his visit to Delhi is not just a political formality but also a gesture of gratitude toward a party that shaped the last six years of his public life.

"He wants to thank the leadership for the opportunities, experiences and political journey the BJP gave him after he resigned from the IPS," a top source familiar with the discussions told The Indian Express.

Adding to the speculation, supporters in his home turf of Coimbatore have put up large posters ahead of his birthday carrying slogans such as "Our Leader, Come and Lead Us." The posters have triggered fresh discussions about the possibility of Annamalai launching a new political movement or regional party in Tamil Nadu, which is likely to contest in the upcoming assembly by-elections in the region.
