The Karnataka bus strike 2026 has been called by a Joint Action Committee (JAC), led by the AITUC-affiliated KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation along with support from multiple unions. The protest follows failed negotiations with the state government.
Despite several rounds of talks with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, no agreement has been reached, pushing workers toward an indefinite strike.
The Joint Action Committee has already submitted a formal strike notice on April 29. The Karnataka government still has time to negotiate and avoid the crisis, but as of now, no breakthrough has been reported.
Key Demands of KSRTC, BMTC Employees
Transport workers have put forward multiple demands, which remain unresolved:
- 25% wage hike effective from January 1, 2024
- Payment of 38 months of pending salary arrears
- Immediate release of Rs. 1,272 crore in dues
- Scientific revision of Form 4 duty schedules

The Karnataka bus strike will impact students and office-goers to reach schools and workplaces. Rural areas dependent on KSRTC and other buses may be completely cut off
Public transport plays a very important role in Karnataka, and any halt in services will have a massive ripple effect.
