Karnataka Residents, Pay Attention! Resubmit Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi Applications to Avoid Disruptions
Beneficiaries of Karnataka's Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi schemes must resubmit their applications to avoid trouble in the future. Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Saturday that the government will update records of the state's two major guarantee schemes to prevent the misuse of funds.
"Beneficiaries will have to submit applications once again. We are not going to stop the scheme for anyone, but applications must be submitted afresh," PTI quoted CM Shivakumar as saying on Saturday. His statement came amid incidents of alleged misuse of funds released under Gruha Jyothi scheme and Gruha Lakshmi scheme.

What is Gruha Jyothi Scheme in Karnataka?
The Gruha Jyothi scheme in Karnataka provides 200 units of free power to all households. It is the state government's flagship sheme which provides free electricity of up to 200 units for every residential household of Karnataka. Scheme benefits will be applicable from meter reading date on or after 1 st August 2023 (for July-2023 consumption).
Fresh applications will also be needed for Gruha Jyothi, which has 1.64 crore beneficiaries. Shivakumar said some people had registered five meters under one name. The government now wants to know whether such users are owners or tenants. It also wants to verify if they belong to Karnataka or another state.
What is Gruha Lakshmi Scheme?
Karnataka's Gruha Lakshmi scheme is solely dedicated to the women who can get Rs 2,000 monthly financial aid to manage household expenses and improve their quality of life.
Gruha Lakshmi Scheme Eligibility
Eligible beneficiaries under the scheme include women who are listed as the head of the family in the ration card. The scheme is open to families holding below poverty line (BPL) or above poverty line (APL) ration cards.

While addressing the media, CM Shivakumar mentioned that around Rs 100 crore under Gruha Lakshmi scheme has gone to beneficiaires who have died. He also highlighted many incidents where beneficiaries have given someone else's phone numbers.
Will Karnataka Govt Remove Beneficiaries Names After List?
"We don't want anyone to be removed. We will not remove anyone, but the correct information should be given by the beneficiaries," he said."We want to know whether the money is going to banks in Karnataka or other states, whether it is going directly for loan repayment, to ponzi schemes, or for any other purpose," he said, adding that the Gruha Lakshmi scheme money was intended to provide financial support for people's livelihoods.
