Karnataka Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Likely Till May 25; Davanagere, Bengaluru, Mandya Among Worst-Hit District

Karnataka weather today has turned unpredictable as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a fresh heavy rain alert for several districts across the state. According to the latest Karnataka weather forecast, fairly widespread rainfall activity is expected from May 22 to May 25, especially across South Interior Karnataka and the Malnad region. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in isolated places during the afternoon and evening hours.

The latest Bengaluru Meteorological Centre nowcast bulletin stated that moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of up to 60 kmph may impact several districts over the next few hours. Davanagere has been placed under a weather alert after intense rainfall activity and strong winds raised concerns over possible tree uprooting, local flooding, traffic disruption, and temporary power outages.

Karnataka Rain Forecast Till May 25

The IMD Karnataka weather update said dry and sunny conditions may continue during the morning hours in many parts of the state. However, after noon, partly cloudy skies are expected to develop, bringing light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in isolated areas.

Heavy rainfall is particularly likely in South Interior Karnataka and Malnad districts. There is increasing pre-monsoon activity going on across the state, with several regions already experiencing intense showers over the past 24 hours.

Tumakuru Records Highest Rainfall In Karnataka

Data released by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) showed that Tumakuru district recorded the highest rainfall in the state during the 24-hour period between 8:30 AM on May 21 and 7:30 AM on May 22.

Tumakuru's Pavadagere Achammanahalli topped the rainfall chart with 104 mm rain, followed by Bengaluru Urban's Anekal Indlawadi with 73.5 mm rainfall.

Several areas in Bengaluru also witnessed strong thunderstorms and waterlogging after evening showers intensified.

The Bengaluru weather forecast indicates more rain activity over the next three days. Thunderstorms along with lightning and strong winds are expected in parts of Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts.

Heavy cloud cover, sudden evening showers, and traffic congestion have already become common in the city over the last few days.

IMD Issues Safety Advisory Amid Thunderstorm Warning

With Karnataka rain alert now active authorities have issued several precautionary measures for the public:

  • Stay indoors during lightning and thunderstorms
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain
  • Do not stand under trees or near electric poles
  • Unplug electrical and electronic devices during lightning
  • Drive carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery roads

As per IMD Karnataka weather alert also warned of possible damage to weak tree branches and temporary disruption of electricity supply in isolated areas.
