Karnataka Weather Alert: Orange Alert for Bengaluru, Mysuru & More; Very Heavy Rain Likely Till October 24

Karnataka weather is going to enter another wet week as the northeast monsoon is causing rain across the state, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of very heavy rainfall in the South Interior districts today, October 18. A thunderstorm, lightning and squall warning has also been issued for all three sub-divisions, which means gusty winds are likely along with the showers.

For today, the IMD expects scattered light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds across the state, while isolated places in the South Interior may see heavy to very heavy rain.

This sub-division, which includes Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar, has been placed under an orange alert for the day, the highest level of warning in the state's forecast this week. Rainfall activity is expected to remain low over the Kalyana Karnataka region, though sunny and cloudy spells will alternate in several places.

The South Interior is likely to stay under pressure well beyond today. The IMD has forecast heavy rain with thunderstorm, lightning and squalls from October 19 to 21, and heavy rain is expected to continue from October 22 to 24.

Residents in low-lying areas and those who commute through waterlogging-prone stretches may need to plan around the weather through the week.

Coastal Karnataka is in a different phase. Thunderstorm and lightning activity is expected on October 18 and 19, followed by heavy rain along with thunderstorms, lightning and squalls on October 20 and 21. Heavy rain is likely to continue on October 22, after which the IMD has issued no warning for October 23 and 24.

North Interior Karnataka weather will see thunderstorm and lightning activity which is likely from October 18 to 21, but no warning has been issued for October 22 to 24. Alongside the rain, morning mist and fog are likely to cover several parts of the state during early hours, which could reduce visibility for morning commuters.
