Coastal Karnataka Weather on Red Alert
IMD has placed Coastal Karnataka weather today under a Red Alert on July 1, July 2, July 5, July 6 and July 7, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm at isolated places. The warning covers the coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, where continuous heavy showers are expected to keep river levels elevated and increase the risk of flooding and landslides.
Residents have been advised to remain indoors during periods of intense rainfall and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
Orange Alert for Coastal and South Interior Karnataka Weather
Apart from the Red Alert days, the IMD has also issued an Orange Alert for Coastal Karnataka on July 3 and July 4, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall between 115.5 mm and 204.4 mm at isolated places.
The Orange Alert has also been extended to South Interior Karnataka from July 5 to July 7, where districts including Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Mysuru, Bengaluru and other nearby regions could face widespread heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Yellow Alert for South and North Interior Karnataka
A Yellow Alert has been issued for South Interior Karnataka from July 1 to July 4 and North Interior Karnataka from July 1 to July 7. The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.4 mm at isolated places across these regions.
While rainfall may not be as severe as in the coastal belt, prolonged showers could still lead to localized flooding, traffic disruptions and reduced visibility.
Heavy Rain Pounds Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada
As per the latest rainfall data from IMD, Karnatak weather has been under the effect of active monsoon conditions . Ankola Hillur in Uttara Kannada recorded the highest rainfall of 134.5 mm, while Golihole in Udupi received 112.5 mm. Karwar (Baad) registered 110 mm, followed by Varilavada in Uttara Kannada and Paduvari in Udupi, both recording 107.5 mm.
Several stations across Mangaluru, Kundapura, Honnavar, Bantwal, Sirsi, Sagar, Shivamogga, Hassan and Yellapura also recorded substantial rainfall ranging between 70 mm and 82 mm raising concerns over waterlogging, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable regions.
Residents Advised to Remain Vigilant
The IMD has asked people to stay updated with official weather advisories and avoid venturing into flood-prone or landslide-prone areas during periods of intense rainfall. Commuters should plan travel carefully, while residents living in vulnerable locations should remain prepared for possible disruptions in electricity, transportation and essential services.
Fishermen have also been advised to exercise caution as rough sea conditions are expected to prevail along the Karnataka coast.
