Karnataka Weather Turns Monsoon-Like: IMD Issues 7-Day Heavy Rain Forecast & Hailstorm Warning
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) have issued a fresh Karnataka weather forecast and rain warning for the next seven days, predicting widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rain across several districts of the state.

According to the latest Karnataka weather update, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong surface winds is expected across many parts of Karnataka today and tomorrow. The IMD has also warned that hailstorm activity may occur in isolated interior districts of Karnataka on May 25.
The latest weather warning comes as several districts continue to record intense rainfall activity, with some areas receiving more than 150 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Karnataka Weather Forecast Today
As per the latest IMD Bengaluru weather bulletin, there is a strong indication of:
- Light to moderate rainfall across Karnataka
- Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning
- Gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places
- Heavy rain likely in isolated districts
- Hailstorm possibility in interior Karnataka districts on May 25
The Karnataka weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity, especially in districts vulnerable to strong winds and lightning strikes.
IMD Issues Rain And Thunderstorm Warning For Karnataka
The 7-day Karnataka rain forecast issued by IMD shows continued rainfall activity across Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka.
Coastal Karnataka Weather Forecast
IMD has predicted thunderstorms and lightning with squally weather conditions from May 24 to May 27 in coastal districts. No major warning has been issued from May 28 onwards.
North Interior Karnataka Weather
North Interior Karnataka districts are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds between May 24 and May 27. Hailstorm activity is likely on May 25 in isolated places.
South Interior Karnataka Weather
South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru and nearby districts, is also likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning till May 27. A hailstorm warning has also been issued for some interior areas on May 25.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Karnataka
Several districts witnessed extremely heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours. According to KSNDMC rainfall data recorded between 8:30 AM on May 23 and 7:30 AM on May 24, the highest rainfall was reported from:
- Babaleshwar in Vijayapura district-155 mm
- Hiregandri in Uttara Kannada-122 mm
- Hattiyangadi in Udupi-113.5 mm
- Roudabanda UKP in Raichur-112 mm
- Chippalakatti in Belagavi-107 mm
Bengaluru IMD Nowcast Warning
The IMD Bengaluru nowcast bulletin has specifically warned districts including Ballari, Koppal, and Dharwad about moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph over the next few hours.
The weather office warned that the ongoing rain activity could lead to Temporary disruption of electricity, Traffic congestion, Damage to weak structures, Falling tree branches & Crop damage in open agricultural lands
Residents have been advised to stay indoors during lightning activity, avoid taking shelter under trees, and unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
Karnataka Rain Forecast For Next 7 Days
Weather experts say the current rainfall activity has been triggered due to strong moisture incursion and atmospheric instability over the state. The rain intensity is expected to remain high over interior and coastal Karnataka till May 27 before gradually reducing in some regions.
However, isolated showers and thunderstorms may continue in several districts even after the warning period.
