Karnataka Weather Orange Alert! IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain & 50 kmph Winds Across Multiple Districts Till May 18
The latest Karnataka weather forecast has put several districts in the state on alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across parts of the state over the coming days. IMD has issued both Orange Alert and Yellow Alert in multiple regions.The Karnataka rain alert has been announced by IMD as multiple districts are likely to see heavy rain over the next few days.

Karnataka Weather: Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Coastal Karnataka
According to the latest update from Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur at one or two places across Coastal Karnataka on May 14 and May 15.
Weather officials at IMD indicated that changing atmospheric conditions are increasing the chances of rainfall in Coastal Karnataka, raising concerns for residents in low-lying regions and areas vulnerable to waterlogging.
North Interior Karnataka To Witness Strong Winds Up To 50 kmph
The IMD Karnataka weather bulletin further stated that North Interior Karnataka (NIK) is likely to see thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50 kmph from May 14 to May 17, 2026.
Weather conditions are expected to remain active across parts of the region, with strong winds and lightning activity posing risks in isolated locations.
On May 18, wind intensity may slightly reduce, but thunderstorms with winds of 30-40 kmph are still expected across some parts of North Interior Karnataka.
Apart from northern districts, South Interior Karnataka (SIK) is also expected to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph from May 14 to May 17.
As per the Karnataka weather update, several interior districts may witness sudden spells of rain, lightning strikes, and strong wind activity.
The combination of rainfall and wind may also lead to local disruptions, including traffic issues and temporary power interruptions in some areas.
IMD Issues Yellow & Orange Alert For Heavy Rainfall
Adding to weather concerns, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow & orange Alert in Karnataka for May 15, May 16, and May 17.
According to the warning, heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm is likely at isolated places across several districts. A heavy rain alert in Karnataka has been issued suggesting rainfall intensity may increase over the weekend, prompting authorities to monitor vulnerable regions.
An Orange Alert generally mean authorities and citizens should be ready for potential disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
