The India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for Karnataka weather, warning of thunderstorms along with speedy winds across multiple regions of the state over the coming days. The alert predicts the possibility of strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph, along with rainfall activity in several districts.
South Interior Karnataka to see the strongest impact
According to the IMD forecast, South Interior Karnataka (SIK) is expected to bear the brunt of the weather activity. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely to occur at a few places from April 28 to May 1, 2026.
This region includes key districts such as Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, and Hassan. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious, especially during afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorm activity intensifies.
North Interior Karnataka Weather Report
In North Interior Karnataka (NIK), thunderstorms with 40-50 kmph winds are expected at isolated locations on April 28 and 29. The affected districts include Belagavi, Dharwad, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Ballari, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot.

The intensity is likely to reduce slightly later, with 30-40 kmph winds forecast on April 30 and May 1 in parts of the region.
Coastal Karnataka to see isolated rainfall
Meanwhile, Coastal Karnataka is also expected to receive isolated thunderstorms on April 28 and 29. While the intensity may be lower compared to interior regions, brief spells of rain and gusty winds are likely.
IMD Orange Alert Details
The IMD has further indicated that thunderstorm activity will persist into early May, with South Interior Karnataka likely to experience gusty winds of 30-40 kmph on May 2 as well. This suggests that unstable weather conditions may continue for several days.
An Orange Alert indicates that people should be prepared for potentially disruptive weather conditions. The IMD advises residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms. Stay away from trees, electric poles, and weak structures and secure loose objects that may be blown away by strong winds
