Kashmir plums shipped by Northern Railway parcel service to Chennai and Kolkata

Northern Railway’s Jammu Division dispatched over nine tonnes of fresh Kashmir plums to Chennai and Kolkata via parcel services in five days. Shipments included about three tonnes from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Chennai and 6.1 tonnes from Jammu Tawi to Kolkata. Officials said the service supports farmers with safe, time-bound delivery.

Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has sent more than nine tonnes of fresh Kashmir plums to Chennai and Kolkata. The shipments moved through railway parcel services over the past five days, an official said. The consignments followed earlier fruit movements from Jammu and Kashmir. Railway officials said the effort supports marketing for the region’s seasonal produce.

Kashmir plums sent to metros

According to officials, the latest plum dispatch came after successful cherry and litchi loads. A railway spokesperson said the plum consignment marked the next step in moving fresh fruits from Jammu and Kashmir. The spokesperson added that such movements were being made to different parts of the country through parcel services.

The spokesperson said Jammu Division loaded and dispatched 284 packets, totalling three tons, from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station to Chennai on Friday. Officials said the consignment was handled through parcel services. The railway described the Katra loading as part of a continuing series of shipments for perishable fruit.

Officials also reported a larger movement towards eastern India. The spokesperson said about 587 packets, weighing 6.1 tons, were dispatched from Jammu Tawi to Kolkata. These loads moved between June 22 and 25. Together, the Katra and Jammu Tawi consignments crossed nine tonnes over five days.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Uchit Singhal said the plum loading from Katra and Jammu Tawi was another milestone. "After cherry and litchi, the loading of plum proves that our efforts are directly connecting the farmers of Kashmir to major markets. Railways are ensuring quick booking, safe handling, and time-bound delivery,\" Uchit Singhal said.

Uchit Singhal said the department aimed to help Kashmir’s seasonal fruits reach buyers nationwide. \"He said the aim is to ensure that every seasonal fruit of Kashmir reaches every corner of the country. Traders and orchardists should make maximum use of the Railways parcel service,\" the report quoted.

Railway parcel services position Kashmir plums as time-bound cargo

The spokesperson said parcel services were linking Kashmir orchardists with the national market. Officials said the steady loading of plums after cherries and litchis showed growing reliance on rail transport. The spokesperson said rail was becoming a reliable and cost-effective option for fresh, perishable fruit movement.

Railway officials said the ongoing fruit shipments were intended to support farmers and consumers. The spokesperson said better logistics could help farmers get improved prices. Officials also said time-bound delivery helped keep fruit fresh for buyers. The division said it would continue using parcel services for seasonal loads.
