The Election Commission of India launched the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision in November 2025, a process that has generated considerable public and media attention. This phase covers nine States-Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal as well as three Union Territories: Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Overall, the revision spans 321 districts and 1,843 Assembly constituencies across these regions.
In Kerala, the house-to-house enumeration component of the revision was completed on December 18, 2025, following field visits by Booth Level Officers. Officials have described the Special Intensive Revision as a crucial preparatory step ahead of Kerala's Assembly elections expected in 2026. The exercise aims to clean and update voter data while ensuring the inclusion of new eligible voters.
By publishing the draft electoral rolls now and setting a clear deadline of January 22, 2026, the Election Commission seeks to provide every eligible citizen in the State with an opportunity to verify their details, request corrections or raise objections.
