G Kishan Reddy Conducts First Review of Coal, Mines Ministries for Self-Reliance

In a significant move towards enhancing India's self-reliance in the mining sector, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy recently convened a comprehensive review meeting with officials from the ministries of coal and mines. The meeting, which took place in New Delhi, was aimed at discussing the deployment of advanced technologies and strategies to bolster the mining sector in India.

Reddy Reviews Coal and Mines Sectors

Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, along with other key officials from the mines ministry, participated in this crucial discussion. The agenda was broad and forward-looking, focusing on automation, innovation, sustainability, and the integration of advanced technologies to elevate India's mining capabilities.

The Ministry of Mines provided an overview of its achievements and outlined its long-term plans during the meeting. Emphasizing the importance of making Bharat self-reliant in the mining sector, the discussions revolved around strategic measures to achieve this goal.

Furthermore, G Kishan Reddy also chaired the first review meeting of the Ministry of Coal. Highlighting the need for India to ramp up domestic coal production and cut down on fossil fuel imports, Reddy shared insights into the current state and future prospects of coal production in India. Notably, India's coal import witnessed a 7.7 per cent increase to 268.24 million tonnes (MT) in FY 24.

Reddy underscored the collaborative spirit between both ministries, emphasizing teamwork as a cornerstone for achieving their objectives. His leadership roles extend beyond these meetings; he has been a pivotal figure in Indian politics and governance. Retaining his position as the MP for Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency by a significant margin over his nearest Congress rival Danam Nagender showcases his political acumen.

Born to middle-class farmer parents in Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad, Reddy's political journey began in 1977 as a grassroots worker. His rise through the ranks is marked by his tenure as president of the BJP's state unit and national president of BJP's Yuva Morcha (BJYM). With a portfolio that includes home, tourism, culture, and development of the northeast region, Reddy brings a wealth of experience to his role as Union Minister. His contributions are not only limited to his electoral victories but also extend to his strategic vision for India's development sectors, including mining and coal.

This meeting marks a step forward in India's quest for self-reliance in critical sectors. By focusing on technological advancements and sustainable practices, the ministries aim to chart a course towards a more autonomous and efficient mining sector that can contribute significantly to India's economic growth.
