Kishtwar to Shine as North Indias Powerhouse with 6,000 MW Projects

Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir is poised to become North India's significant power hub. This transformation will be achieved through the completion of ongoing power projects with a combined capacity of 6,000 MW.

Review of Hydropower Projects

During his visit to the 120-MW Seva-II hydropower project near Bani in Kathua district, Minister Singh reviewed the status of hydropower projects with NHPC officials. He highlighted that seven major hydropower projects have been established in the region since Narendra Modi assumed the role of Prime Minister in 2014.

Ongoing Power Projects in Kishtwar

Singh provided details about the ongoing power projects in Kishtwar. The largest project is the Pakal Dul project, which has a capacity of 1,000 MW and is expected to be completed by 2025 at an estimated cost of over Rs 8,000 crore. Another significant project is the Kiru Hydroelectric project with a capacity of 624 MW and an estimated cost of Rs 4,285.59 crore, also targeted for completion in 2025.

Additionally, the 850 MW Ratle project has been revived as a joint venture between the center and the Union Territory of J&K. The existing Dulhasti power station has an installed capacity of 390 MW, while the Dulhasti II Hydroelectric project will have a capacity of 260 MW.

Benefits for the Region

Singh emphasized that these projects will not only enhance the power supply in Jammu and Kashmir, addressing the shortage of electricity, but also serve as a catalyst for economic growth. The substantial investments made in constructing these projects will provide a boost to the local economy and create employment opportunities.

Harnessing Natural Resources

Singh highlighted that for the first time, the Modi government is harnessing the natural resources of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly its hydropower potential. This will enable the surplus power generated in the region to be supplied to other parts of North India.

Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives

During his visit, Singh also discussed upcoming corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities for the neighboring Bani and Basohli areas of Kathua district.
