Mounted 155mm artillery systems: KSSL and AM General sign partnership for global market
Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (KSSL), the defence subsidiary of Bharat Forge Ltd, has signed a strategic partnership with AM General to develop mounted 155mm artillery systems for the global market. Announced at Eurosatory in Paris, the collaboration targets mobile, all-weather platforms and may support a bid for the US Army Mobile Tactical Cannon programme.
Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (KSSL), the defence arm of Bharat Forge Ltd, said it signed a strategic partnership with AM General. The tie-up is for distinct mounted artillery gun systems aimed at the global market. KSSL announced the deal at the Eurosatory defence exposition in Paris, which runs every two years.

KSSL said the partnership targets modern military needs across changing combat conditions. The companies plan compact and mobile artillery platforms for varied climates and terrain. KSSL added that the plan supports wider allied distribution. It also aims to offer a scalable export option for nations seeking modern 155mm mobile fires.
KSSL partnership with AM General for mounted artillery gun systems
KSSL said the partners see "numerous opportunities globally\" for the artillery platform. The company said the system is meant to be exportable and suitable for partner nations. KSSL described the intended role as a modern, mobile and survivable 155mm fires capability. The statement linked this to evolving requirements of defence forces worldwide.
AM General has also offered a proposal tied to the US Army Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) programme, KSSL said. The submission to the US government includes a 155mm MTC solution. KSSL said it is based on the mature, combat-relevant architecture of KSSLs mounted artillery gun platform.
KSSL said delivery is planned in 2027 if the solution is down-selected. AM General’s President and CEO John Chadbourne said, \"By integrating the patented soft recoil technology to their state-of-the-art and mature platforms, we will be delivering truly groundbreaking capabilities that can provide an advantage on the evolving battlefield,\"
KSSL mounted artillery gun system features and Soft Recoil Technology
KSSL said the Mounted Artillery Gun (MARG) system focuses on strategic transport and tactical movement. The company said it achieves this using a purpose-built powerpack and suspension. It also uses a lighter gross vehicle weight rating. KSSL said these design choices help mobility across varied operating conditions.
The system uses a 52-calibre 155 mm cannon, KSSL said. It is paired with the patented Soft Recoil Technology (SRT) recoil mitigation system. KSSL said it also includes an automated load-assist. The company added an all-weather fire control suite supports indirect and direct fire roles.
KSSL said the system can fire a standard high-explosive projectile beyond 40 Kilometres. KSSL also said it can carry over 20 projectiles and propellant charges on board. The company said the SRT setup absorbs more recoil than traditional systems. This allows a lighter vehicle and turret, and lowers shock over service life.
