L&T Shares Rally Following EPC Railway Systems Order In ASEAN Region For Jakarta MRT Project; Details

Larsen & Toubro's construction arm has clinched its inaugural Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Railway Systems order in the All South Eastern Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. The company is set to spearhead the construction of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Project Phase 2A, an extension that promises to redefine the city's transportation landscape.

The announcement, detailed in an exchange filing, reveals that Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will execute the project in collaboration with its long-term Japanese partner, Sojitz Corporation. The Jakarta MRT Phase 2A aims to extend the existing line from Bundaran HI to Kota, covering a distance of 12.5 kilometres and featuring seven strategically placed underground stations.

The construction giant has tagged this contract as "significant," signifying its value falls within the substantial range of Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore. L&T's responsibilities under this project encompass the procurement and delivery of various systems across different domains on a design and build basis, with an emphasis on comprehensive system integration.

This move marks an important moment for L&T as it expands its influence in the ASEAN region, aiming to capitalize on the surge in railway projects anticipated over the next decade. By securing this order, the company positions itself strategically to tap into the growing opportunities within the South Eastern Asian market.

Last week, L&T bagged another "significant" order, this time closer to home, as it undertakes the construction of five residential towers in Thane. The conglomerate continues to diversify its portfolio, showcasing resilience and adaptability in a dynamic market.

Recent reports that surfaced last week indicated that L&T and Kalpataru Power emerged as the lowest bidders for Saudi Aramco's Master Gas System project. The company's ability to secure projects of such magnitude reinforces its global standing and underscores its prowess in varied sectors.

The shares of Larsen & Toubro were seen trading with gains of nearly 2.5% at Rs 3,466.60 per share as of 11:35 am on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Over the last 12 months, the stock has recorded a 65% surge.

The Jakarta MRT Phase 2A project not only reinforces L&T's prowess in large-scale infrastructure projects but also underscores its commitment to contributing to the development and modernization of vital transportation networks.
