LIVE: US Fed Meeting/ US Stock Market Updates: No Hike Today? Dow Jones Futures Fall; Nasdaq, S&P 500 Gains

The US stock market will be impacted by the Federal Reserve's policy announcement on Wednesday. Market predicts a pause from FOMC policymakers led by Kevin Warsh; however, CPI inflation remains elevated to 3.7% and that will play a major role in decision-making.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) began its 2-day policy meeting on October 27 and is scheduled to announce its outcome on October 28, 2026.

In the September 2026 policy, Fed chair Kevin Warsh hiked federal fund rates by 25 basis points for the first time in 3 years to 3.75% to 4%. The reason was the elevated inflation which continues to linger due to Iran conflict that has sparked an energy crisis. All 19 policymakers of Fed voted for a hike.

That time, Warsh said, "The plain fact is that inflation is too high and has been for too long." He reiterated that the FOMC's predominant focus is on the price stability side of their mandate.

Since the last policy meeting, US CPI inflation has surged to 3.7% in September 2026, while annual core inflation rates climbed to 2.6%. This is very high from Fed's consumer price index target of 2%.

Overall, the market has priced in at least 3 rate hikes from the Fed over the next 12 months but after October 2026 policy.
