Google India MD Roma Datta Chobey Highlights AI's Crucial Role in Future Growth Over Next 20 Years

Google has celebrated two decades in India and is optimistic about the future, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) playing a significant role. Roma Datta Chobey, Google's India Managing Director, stated that the company is aligning its strategy with India's growth ambitions. AI regulation should balance user benefits and innovation, she noted.

AIs Role in Googles Future in India

India holds immense importance for Google, highlighted by its commitment to AI, payments, Pixel manufacturing, and skill development. Chobey emphasised Google's collaboration with Indian startups, hosting millions of apps on Google Playstore. "As Google, we’ve been deeply partnering with the startup ecosystem," she said.

Google's AI Strategy in India

Google's AI strategy focuses on three pillars: leveraging AI to democratise information and opportunities, developing India's AI ecosystem responsibly, and preparing a workforce for an AI-driven world. Chobey expressed pride in India's contributions to global solutions through Google's initiatives.

The company recently introduced several AI-powered innovations at the Google for India event. These include Indian language capabilities for Gemini Live and updates for Google Lens, Maps, and Pay. The event underscored India's significance as a market for Google.

Commitment to Local Manufacturing

Google has started manufacturing Pixel 8 devices in India since August. Chobey mentioned their excitement about this development and the availability of service centres in India. "Watch out the space... we will talk about it more," she added.

Chobey reiterated that India remains a crucial market for Google from both user and research perspectives. The company has over 10,000 employees working across five cities in India. "What is good for India is good for Google," she remarked.

Google's collaboration with local partners includes initiatives like the India digitisation fund and Pixel phone manufacturing. The company continues to invest in these areas to support India's growth while addressing global challenges.

Chobey highlighted Google's dedication to fostering innovation within India's startup ecosystem through accelerators and advanced technology access. This commitment is part of Google's broader strategy to integrate its objectives with India's vision.

Google's efforts extend beyond local challenges, aiming to solve global issues as well. The company's focus on responsible and inclusive AI development reflects its commitment to sustainable growth in India and beyond.

The introduction of new features at the Google for India event demonstrates Google's ongoing investment in the Indian market. These advancements aim to enhance user experience while supporting India's digital transformation journey.
