Panic bookings overwhelm LPG booking systems

According to reports, the situation escalated as domestic consumers rushed to book LPG cylinders after concerns emerged over potential supply disruptions. Consumers across India reported that online LPG booking systems had become unresponsive.

Several people attempting to book cylinders through IVRS numbers, mobile apps, and websites were repeatedly greeted with a "server down" message. Many others said their LPG bookings were either delayed or cancelled despite multiple attempts.

The sudden spike in demand also forced many consumers to visit their local distributor outlets in person, leading to long queues outside LPG agencies in cities and towns.

Industry sources said the current LPG booking infrastructure was not designed to handle such a massive surge in traffic. Since thousands of users were trying to book cylinders simultaneously, the system is struggling to process requests.

LPG Supply slowdown Is a Big concerns

Even though the government has instructed suppliers to prioritise domestic LPG distribution, consumers in several areas said deliveries have slowed significantly.

According to reports, distributors clarified that while domestic LPG supply has not been completely halted, deliveries are taking longer than usual.

Adding to the pressure, LPG prices were recently increased by Rs. 60 for domestic 14.2 kg cylinders and around Rs. 115 for commercial cylinders,

Cities across India report disruptions

The crisis began intensifying between March 9 and March 12, with reports of disruptions coming from major cities including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, and several rural regions in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. In some cases, consumers reportedly made hundreds of calls in a single day to book a cylinder which is overwhelming the system.

Government Response

Amid the growing panic, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has assured consumers that there is no shortage of domestic LPG in the country.

He said oil marketing companies are prioritising household supply and taking steps to stabilise the distribution network. Companies such as Indian Oil Corporation have also increased server bandwidth to handle higher booking traffic.
