LPG prices in the major Indian cities have been hiked by the Oil Marketing Companies, which is the first increase since October 6, 2021.
Now, LPG cylinder in Delhi and Mumbai will cost Rs 949.50, while in Kolkata, a customer will have to pay Rs 976. In Chennai LPG prices have been raised to Rs 965.50.
In line with international prices, the oil marketing companies have also raised prices of petrol and diesel. Since the Russian attack on Ukraine, prices of crude oil have been rallying, with Crude oil now hovering around the $118 per barrel mark. However, during this period, the oil marketing companies had not raised fuel prices largely on account of the state elections. Now, they have decided to raise rates and it is likely that we might see them increasing rates even further in the coming days.
If the government of India, does not cut excise on petrol and diesel, we will see a further hike in their rates. On the other hand, we might see lpg rates in the major Indian cities also go higher even next month. In fact, there are worries that this may lead to higher inflation in the coming months, which could put pressure on the budget of Indian households.
