LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC New Deadline Sept-30; How To Complete E-KYC For Indane, HP, Bharat Gas In 5 Ways

The government has once again extended the LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication deadline to this month-end. If this deadline is missed, then reports have said customers will have to buy LPG gas cylinders at commercial rates. To put in perspective, the domestic rate of 14.2 Kg LPG is Rs 942 in Delhi, and the commercial rate at Rs 2,747.50 per 19 Kg cylinder. If e-KYC is not completed, your domestic LPG cylinder price will be hiked by more than Rs 1,800.

LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Deadline Extended

Officials said to Times of India that LPG consumers will get one final opportunity to complete their e-KYC verification with the deadline extended to September 30, 2026. They added that those who fail to complete the process by then will have to buy cylinders at commercial rates.

The report highlighted that the cost of a cylinder could rise up to Rs 1,600 under commercial pricing, against around Rs 1,000 currently being charged to eligible consumers who have completed their e-KYC.

Data of Oil Ministry revealed that as of September 19, 2026, at least 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers have completed their e-KYC, a coverage of 89.9%.

The LPG customers were first asked to complete their e-KYC by June 30, 2026. Then the government fixed the deadline several times to give consumers time to complete their e-KYC. Before September 30th, the deadline was September 14, 2026. Prior to this, the deadline was September 7, August 31, August 23, August 15, August 7, and July 31.

Earlier this week, the ministry said, since October 2023, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have run a nationwide outreach drive. More than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp messages have been sent. Distributors and delivery staff have followed up individually with consumers yet to authenticate. Special camps have been held at distributorships, high-footfall locations, and in rural areas. IVRS prompts during refill booking, mobile notifications, and campaigns on social media, in newspapers, and through other channels have also been used.

What Happens If You Miss the September 30th Deadline?

The report highlights that consumers who did not complete their e-KYC will have to pay commercial rates for buying domestic LPG cylinders.

These rates are for 14.2 Kg domestic LPG cylinders. The 14.2 Kg LPG cylinder is largely meant for domestic use and comprise almost 90% of all gas distributed, as per the Indian Oil website. Indian households use this cylinder type.

These rates are for 19 Kg commercial LPG cylinders, which are meant for industrial and commercial consumption. These commercial consumptions include eateries, hotels, restaurants, malls, food stalls and small-scale industries, as they require high consumption for cooking and heating needs.

So if LPG customers fail to complete their e-KYC, they might pay Rs 1,805.5 more on their domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi (Rs 2,747.50 commercial rate - Rs 942 domestic rate). The same impact will likely be felt in other cities as well.

LPG Biometric Aadhaar Authentication For Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas

The September 31st deadline is aligned with the government's new rule where it has made LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication mandatory with effect from October 1, 2026. The reason behind this rule is to ensure genuine and eligible customers are receiving subsidized LPG benefits and to tackle diversion of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial and industrial usage.

The Oil Ministry has directed oil marketing companies like Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL to halt LPG subsidy benefits of customers who have not completed their biometric authentication (BAA) immediately until they complete the e-KYC process.

Under the new rule, consumers who have not completed BAA, refill booking at RSP with subsidy will be enabled once authentication is completed.

"Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to do it again. Their refills continue as before," the Oil Ministry said.

To put in perspective, domestic LPG is sold below cost. According to the ministry, the implicit subsidy for September 2026 is around Rs 210 per 14.2 kg cylinder; in June 2026 it reached Rs 721 per cylinder.

To keep domestic LPG affordable, the Government paid OMCs compensation of Rs 22,000 crore in FY 2022-23 and is paying Rs 30,000 crore during FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27. Even after this, accumulated under-recoveries of public sector OMCs on domestic LPG exceeded Rs 62,000 crore as on 31 August 2026. Directing the subsidy only to genuine consumers is essential to sustaining it.
