This is another inflationary blow for consumers, as cooking gas LPG price was on Thursday hiked by Rs 3.50 per cylinder, the second increase in rates this month. Non-subsidised LPG now costs Rs 1,003 per 14.2-kg cylinder in the national capital, according to a price notification of state fuel retailers. The hike comes on the back of a Rs 50 per cylinder increase effected on May 7. Prior to that, prices were increased by the same amount on March 22.With the hike, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi and Mumbai is Rs 1003, in Kolkata the domestic LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1029, and in Chennai it will cost Rs 1018.5 from today.

A 19 kg LPG cylinder on the other hand is now being sold for Rs 2,354 in Delhi; Rs 2,454 in Kolkata, Rs 2,306 in Mumbai and Rs 2,507 in the city of Chennai. LPG Cylinder rates have increased all over India now.

Consumers are already facing the brunt of soaring inflation and now a hike in the cooking gas cylinder is going to cause severe crunch for consumers. In fact, they are already reeling under inflationary pressures, with WPI inflation for April crossing the 15% mark.

The RBI has already hiked interest rates to curb inflation in the economy. The government has so far not intervened in any way, to prevent a rise in prices, particularly of fuel related products.
