LPG Strike Alert: Why Gas Cylinder Distributors Call For Nationwide Protests? Is LPG Delivery Stopped?
The LPG distributors in India are demanding commission hikes from oil marketing companies (OMCs) due to overworking for implementing new rules in LPG services since the US-Iran conflict began in late February. However, the Delhi police denied protests on October 26, 2026, at CBD ground days after Jantar Mantar was denounced as a protest site. LPG distributors have threatened to carry an indefinite strike.
LPG Distributors Strike Today Or Not?

The gas cylinder distributors had warned to carry strikes at CBD ground on October 26, 2026. However, many LPG distributor federations have decided to distance themselves from the proposed protests and instead directly negotiate with OMCs and Oil Ministry. The distributors demand higher commissions and relaxation in operational and commercial pressures due to new rules that were implemented in LPG services, pushing these distributors to overwork.
The Delhi cops have not granted permission for a demonstration of protest to LPG distributors. This is despite Ram Lila Maidan and CBD road in east Delhi declared as designated protest sites after scrapping the same at Jantar Mantar. As per media reports, indefinite strike could not be carried out at the newly designated sites due to functions and programmes related to the festive season.
Nonetheless, as per reports, approximately 2,000 to 4,000 police personnel have been set up at the CBD region to monitor the situation.
What Are LPG Distributors Demanding?
Some of the anger is directed towards the commission that these distributors get from OMCs on domestic LPG cylinder sales. They argue that commission have been unchanged for the past five years despite surge in operating expenses. Hence, they demand a hike in commissions.
2. Second major issue raised by these distributors is the government's push towards PNG connections.
Because of the US-Iran conflict, LPG supply crunch has been felt globally including India which imports 60% of its LPG requirements. Following this, the government has introduced rules like "One Household, One Cooking Gas Connection", banning PNG users to retain LPG connection or LPG cylinders, and expediting the process of mandatory switch to PNG in areas where infrastructure is available.
Earlier this month, the government launched PNG Drive 3.0 and "MyPNG Portal" to accelerate India's transition to a gas-based economy.
The new PNG portal, a unified national digital consumer portal was launched to streamline PNG services, improve access to information, and strengthen interactions between consumers and City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities.
According to LPG distributors this will hurt their customer base and potentially their businesses. Hence, they demand that a customer should have the choice to choose between their own cooking gas instead of pushing PNG connection wherever available.
3. Further, these distributors are objecting over pressures imposed on them to sell non-fuel products and to adopt additional sales categories. They demand relaxation in this as they believe sales should be driven by customer demand instead of imposed targets.
4. The next issue that LPG distributors face is the workload and costs. They claim that they are not receiving adequate payment or financial support for LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication.
5. Another key issue is the restriction of granting new LPG connections or changes in the refill orders without their consent. They demand clarity in operating procedures and formal grievance-redressal system.
Are LPG Services Deliveries Shut Today?
As per reports, there is no official conformation of nationwide shutdown of LPG cylinder services. The Federation of LPG Distributors of India and the All India LPG Distributors Federation have already decided to not partake in the protest. However, it is advisable for customers to check with their local LPG distributors whether LPG cylinder deliveries are open or halted.
