Major Challenges at Maha Kumbh 2025

Despite extensive preparations by the Uttar Pradesh government, Maha Kumbh 2025 faced several unfortunate incidents.
One of the most tragic events occurred on Mauni Amavasya, towards the end of January, when a massive stampede broke out at the Kumbh Mela during the early hours of the day. The incident resulted in the loss of over 30 lives, with many others sustaining injuries. The stampede was triggered by an overwhelming crowd gathering at the Sangam, leading to panic and chaos. Authorities are now investigating the causes and working on measures to prevent such incidents.

Guinness World Records at Maha Kumbh 2025

The Maha Kumbh 2025 witnessed multiple Guinness World Records attempts. Here are a few of them:

A team of 15,000 sanitation workers attempted to set a new Guinness World Record for the 'Most People Sweeping the Floor (Multiple Venues).' This record surpasses the previous record set during Kumbh 2019, when 10,000 workers participated in a similar initiative.

The Prayagraj Mela Authority attempted to create the longest handprint painting on an 80-foot-long and 5-foot-wide wall in the Ganga Pandal (Sector-1) of the fairgrounds. A lot of devotees at Maha Kumbh also contributed to this extensive handprint mural. This effort is expected to surpass the 2019 Kumbh Mela record, where 7,660 people collaborated to achieve a similar feat.
