Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), a major state-owned engineering company, has secured a significant contract valued at Rs 4,000 crore from Adani Power Limited. The agreement entails the establishment of the 1,600 MW Raigarh Phase-II Thermal Power Plant situated in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.

The news sparked investor enthusiasm, propelling BHEL's shares up by 1.40% to Rs 246.50 on the NSE and by 1.52% to Rs 246.60 on the BSE.

According to the filing made by BHEL, the company secured a letter of award on March 27, 2024. The award entails supplying equipment and overseeing the erection and commissioning of a 2x800 MW power project based on supercritical technology at Raigarh Phase II, Chhattisgarh. The key components of the project, including the boiler and turbine generator, will be manufactured at BHEL's Trichy and Haridwar plants, respectively. The project timeline stipulates that the supply of Unit-1 will be completed within 31 months, followed by Unit-2 within 35 months.
