Majority of Tata Group Stocks Rise Despite Declines in TCS and Tata Motors Shares

Ratan Tata, the former Chairman of Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday at 86. He was instrumental in turning the Tata Group into a global powerhouse. On Thursday, 14 out of 21 listed Tata companies, including Tata Chemicals and Tata Investment Corp, saw their shares rise. However, shares of Tata Consultancy Services and Tata Motors were among those that fell.

Tata Group Stocks Mostly Rise Amid Declines

The market capitalisation of the listed Tata companies dropped by Rs 14,110.14 crore to Rs 33.41 lakh crore. Despite this, the BSE Sensex gained 144.31 points, closing at 81,611.41. Shares of TRF surged by 6.31% to Rs 510.30 each, while Tata Teleservices Maharashtra rose by 5.75%. Other gainers included Tata Investment Corporation and Tata Chemicals.

Stock Performance and Market Impact

Tata Elxsi, Tata Technologies, and Tata Power also experienced gains on the exchange. Conversely, the retail arm of the group saw a decline of 2.27%, closing at Rs 8,033.30 per share. Titan's shares decreased by 1.33%, while Tata Motors and Tata Consultancy Services fell by 1.10% and 0.56%, respectively.

In the September quarter of 2024, TCS reported a net profit increase of 4.99%, reaching Rs 11,909 crore. This growth was limited by a narrowing profit margin. The company's revenue rose by 7.06% to Rs 64,988 crore compared to the previous year.

TCS Financial Performance

In comparison to the June quarter, TCS's net profit slightly decreased from Rs 12,040 crore. Revenue for TCS in the June quarter was Rs 63,575 crore, showing a marginal increase in the September quarter.

Shares of Voltas declined by 0.49%, while Tata Consumer Products and Rallis India saw decreases of 0.47% and 0.45%, respectively. Despite some declines in individual stocks, several other companies within the group experienced positive movements on the stock exchange.

The Indian Hotels Company saw its shares rise by 1.82%, while TajGVK Hotels & Resorts increased by 2.24%. Other companies like Nelco and Tejas Networks also recorded gains.

The overall performance of the group on Thursday was mixed with both gains and losses across different sectors within the conglomerate.
