Mamaearth’s Ghazal Alagh Tops The Self-Made Entrepreneurs List In Women; Check List

Mamaearth co-founder Ghazal Alagh and Sugar Cosmetics co-founder Vineeta Singh have emerged as the leading women entrepreneurs in India, securing the top spots in the recently released IDFC First Bank and Hurun Report's list of 'India's Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023.' The duo is well known for their roles as 'sharks' in Shark Tank India.

The list showcases the vibrant tapestry of Indian entrepreneurship and also reveals a diverse group of young and driven women making significant marks in their respective industries. Ghazal Alagh, at the age of 35, claimed the coveted top rank, closely followed by Saumya Singh Rathore (35), co-founder of the vernacular social gaming platform WinZO. The list further includes trailblazers like API management app Hasura co-founder Rajoshi Ghosh (36), health-tech visionary Garima Sawhney (37) of Pristyn Care, and tech maven Kanika Gupta (39) of Square Yards.

The top 10 also features Vineeta Singh (40) of Sugar Cosmetics, Ruchi Kalra (40) of OfBusiness, Mabel Chacko (40) of Open, Ruchi Deepak (41) of Acko, and Amrita Sirohia (41) of IndMoney. Each entrepreneur on the list has left a mark on their respective industries, showcasing diversity and talent.

This list, released alongside India's Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023, highlights the nature of the entrepreneurial spirit across age groups, gender, and geographical locations. Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and Chief Researcher at Hurun India notes that one-third of the list comprises individuals under 40, with the eldest entrepreneur being 80 years old.

One intriguing aspect of the report is the preference for Bengaluru as the top choice for starting companies among the listed entrepreneurs. This stands in contrast to the Hurun India Rich List, where Mumbai and New Delhi traditionally had more ground. The shift signifies the changing dynamics of the startup ecosystem.

It is important to note that the ranking in this list is based on the value of enterprises and not on the personal net worth of the founders. This distinction adds an extra layer of significance, emphasizing the tangible impact these entrepreneurs have had on building and growing successful enterprises.

While the list is dominated by male entrepreneurs, with Radhakishan Damani leading as the top self-made entrepreneur for Avenue Supermarts (D-Mart), the inclusion of Falguni Nayar, founder of Nykaa, as the top self-made woman entrepreneur at the 12th spot reflects the growing influence of women in the business world. Ruchi Kalra and her co-founders at OfBusiness share the 13th spot.

As India's entrepreneurial landscape continues to evolve, these women are not just making a mark; they are setting the standard for innovation, resilience, and success. With Ghazal Alagh and Vineeta Singh at the forefront, the future looks promising for women entrepreneurs.
