Mansukh Mandaviya Launches State-Specific e-Shram Microsites and Occupational Shortage Index for Workforce Empowerment

Union Minister for Labour & Employment Mansukh Mandaviya introduced state and Union Territory Microsites under the e-Shram initiative, alongside the Occupational Shortage Index (OSI). These initiatives were unveiled during a meeting with Labour Ministers and Secretaries from various states and Union Territories, as per a statement from the labour ministry.

Mandaviya Introduces e-Shram Microsites and OSI

Mandaviya highlighted that the multilingual e-Shram microsite facility aims to provide unorganised sector workers with easy access to welfare programmes from both state and Central governments. This initiative is expected to empower workers while improving transparency and efficiency in delivering welfare services.

Enhancing Workforce Readiness

The OSI leverages real-time labour market data to ensure skill development and job matching processes are data-driven. "By leveraging real-time labour market data, we are ensuring that skill development and job matching processes are data-driven and tailored to the actual needs of industries, making our workforce future-ready," Mandaviya stated. This approach aims to prepare the workforce for future demands.

The OSI is designed to aid policymakers, training institutions, and businesses in addressing skill gaps in high-demand sectors. It facilitates effective decision-making in workforce planning and skill development initiatives. The index also optimises job matching and guides state governments and employers in creating targeted skill development programmes.

Streamlining Worker Registration

The e-Shram Microsites serve as state-specific digital platforms that integrate seamlessly with the national e-Shram database. This integration between state portals and the e-Shram portals simplifies the registration process for unorganised workers, making it more accessible and efficient.

These initiatives collectively aim to enhance the delivery of welfare services, improve workforce readiness, and streamline worker registration processes. By focusing on data-driven approaches, they seek to address skill shortages effectively while empowering workers across India.
